Sankofa (SAHN-koh-fah): “go back and get it.”

The spirit of Sankofa encompasses taking from the past what is good and bringing it into the present to make progress in the future.

It’s been over 400 years since our ancestors were stolen from the shores of West Africa and brought to the Americas against their will. Now, we’re traveling back to our ancestral home to connect with our roots and turn up in the motherland.

There’s no better place to be in December than Ghana!

Check out our itinerary* below & book your spot for only $350!

Day 1 - Akwaaba!

Arrival & Welcome Dinner

Akwaaba (welcome) to Ghana! We will pick you up from Kotoka International Airport and whisk you away to our cozy boutique accommodations in the Osu neighborhood of Accra.

A Buoyant welcome gift will await you, and as you settle into your suite, our team will be setting up for tonight’s welcome dinner.

At dinner, you will get your first taste of Ghana with authentic local dishes at one of Accra’s well-loved restaurants--this is the perfect time to connect with the other travelers you’ll be exploring with over the next week.

Cheers!

Day 2 - Afrochella

Get To Know Accra

Accra City Tour

Today we will explore the best of Accra. Our city tour will take us to famous landmarks like the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial, Independence Square, and the W.E.B DuBois Center. We will learn the history of this beautiful country and its relationship with famous Pan- Africanists.

Afrochella
Ever wanted to swag surf with ya' people on the continent? Yeah, it's as lit as it sounds.

We’ll celebrate our homecoming this December in Ghana at Ghana's best music festival, Afrochella. It's like Coachella, only Blacker and better.

The festival features music, food (Jollof anyone?), and art installations. Afrochella is a celebration of African culture and the perfect place to celebrate your return home.

We've got good news - VIP Afrochella tickets are included in your trip price because we know you're here for a good time, not a long time.

Meals Included: Breakfast & Lunch

Day 3 - In The Hills

Aburi Waterfall Experience

We partied and connected with our ancestors all week long, so it's time for some relaxing adventures today. We're heading outside of Accra to the Eastern Region to experience some of the most scenic parts of this beautiful country. On the list? A beautiful secret waterfall, a visit to Aburi Botanical Gardens, and lunch at a locally-loved resort.

Meals Included: Breakfast and Lunch

Day 4 - Sankofa

Cape Coast & Kakum National Park

This journey marks our official return home to where they said we’d never return. We’ll celebrate with a transformative visit to Cape Coast Castle or Elmina Castle and Kakum National Park.

At Kakum, we’ll walk the famous treetop canopies, and at the ‘castle,’ we will follow the same path as our ancestors did during their last moments on the coast of West Africa before walking through the ‘Door Of No Return.’

This part of the trip will be powerful and emotional for many. Our expert guide will show us around the ‘castles’ sharing crucial stories of our ancestral past. After the tour, we’ll have time to reflect with an oceanside lunch

Meals Included: Breakfast and Lunch

Day 5 - Happy New Year!

Market Experience and New Year's Eve Celebration

You probably already know that Ghana in December is lit, but tonight will prove it for sure.

During the day, join us on a morning stroll through Makola Market. We will end our visit at one of our favorite boutiques in Accra, The Shop, where you can enjoy a light lunch

Tonight, we'll head out for a night on the town to celebrate the beautiful new year ahead.

Feel free to drop a message in our private WhatsApp group with your NYE agenda so link-ups can happen!

Client Testimonials

✈️ “ I had an amazing time in Ghana thanks to Buoyant Travel. As a seasoned traveler, I usually stay away from organized group trips but now I want to join more! The group was amazing, I loved being surrounded by dope Black women. And so many people thought we all knew each other for years. Ringing in NYE with everyone was so much fun! I loved all the tours provided, we got a good mix of fun and educational/cultural activities. Also, the accommodation was beautiful!” - Paula D.

✈️ “I appreciated the planned activities, accommodations (the scenery of the hotel was beautiful), transportation, and meals. I loved how there was both fun activities as well as educational activities. It was pretty awesome knowing arrangements were made for the day and all I had to do was get on the bus.” - Shardae F.

✈️ “I just wanted to say thank you so much for making me feel so comfortable on this trip especially due to my different diet, I never felt left out.” - Chloe C.

✈️ I had a great time on this trip and am looking forward to traveling with Buoyant again! Bri curated a great group of travelers, arranged beautiful and centrally located accommodations and special activities. The group day trips were well organized, with enough time to enjoy and not feel rushed going from one place to the next while still leaving plenty of time to explore on our own. Afrochella, the waterfall photo shoot, the tour of the city, and our visit to Cape Coast were my favorites. I appreciated Bri's communication throughout the trip, keeping us updated on schedules and changes, and checking in. Also, having a photographer, driver, tour guides, and local connections went a long way, especially while shopping and eating local foods. Everything, and I mean everything I tried, was delicious, from tilapia and banku to okra stew, light soup, waakye, fresh fruits, and bofrot – I enjoyed it all. At the beginning of the trip, I told the ladies I was looking forward to eating and dancing my way through Ghana, and I did just that! I couldn't have asked for a better *first* group trip with beautiful Black women from across the globe to experience the culture, company, and celebration that is December in Ghana. Thank you, Buoyant, for the experience!” Kaya H.
