Kinfolk Code
Our group travel style is designed for Black travelers who embrace adventure, culture, and connection. Please read your itinerary and the following description carefully to make sure you're booking a trip that fits your travel style and comfort level.
This trip is for travelers ready to immerse themselves in authentic Black diaspora experiences while enjoying a mix of splurge-worthy moments and budget-friendly gems. We design our trips with experiences that aren't 100% luxury or budget. We exist for Black travelers, our kinfolk, who enjoy both types of travel. Think bougie aunties & uncles who still love a good deal.
We always provide quality customer service, but we also embed free time into the itinerary for exploring the destination on your own or relaxing and rejuvenating. We know rest is a birthright, and we honor the fact that you might need to recharge on group trips.
This trip is filled with experiences that center Black history and culture, from supporting Black-owned businesses to exploring the layered stories of the African diaspora in every destination we visit. In signing up for this trip, you agree to the following:
I get the Buoyant travel style.
I know we splurge on a unique dining experience, but we also love street food. I adore well-designed spaces like charming boutique hotels and am excited to experience authentic, local connections that help me engage with Black history and culture.
I'm an adventurous and open-minded traveler.
I'm ready to step outside my comfort zone, try new things, and immerse myself in layered and nuanced destinations. I understand that the places we visit have complex histories, and I'm prepared to engage with them thoughtfully.
I respect the land and the people.
I understand that we are guests in someone's home when we travel. I will approach each destination with respect, cultural humility, and an openness to learn from the people and places we encounter.
I deeply value Black history and culture.
I'm here to connect with the global African diaspora. I appreciate that every trip is intentionally designed to connect me with local Black history, culture, and Black-owned businesses in the places we visit.
I'm comfortable with flexibility and independence.
I've read the full itinerary and looked at the style of accommodations. I understand that free time is built into our schedule for me to explore on my own, relax, or do absolutely nothing, and I'm here for it. I'm an independent traveler who can roll with changes when they happen.
I understand that last-minute changes are possible.
Things like meals may take longer than expected, activities might shift, or the weather might change our plans. I know the Buoyant team will communicate changes beforehand whenever possible, and I'm prepared to be flexible and patient with these cultural differences and travel realities.
I'm ready to embrace the unexpected.
Sometimes flights are delayed, plans change, or things don't go exactly as expected, but I know that some of the best travel memories come from things not going as planned. I'm ready to roll with it all and find the joy in the journey.
I can opt out of activities whenever I want.
I understand that I can choose not to participate in any activities on the itinerary. (But I promise to let my guide know when I do so they won’t have to search for me!)
I will communicate if issues arise.
If concerns or issues come up during the trip, I will let my local host or Buoyant team member know so they can proactively address them. I won't wait until after the trip to share feedback about something that could have been resolved in the moment.
I'm here to connect with kinfolk.
I'm excited to meet Black travelers from all walks of life and across the diaspora. I'm open to building community, lifting each other up, and making memories together. All Black people, from anywhere, can sit at our table.
I appreciate solo travel support.
I understand that single-occupancy rooms are included for all kinfolk at no extra charge because Buoyant believes I deserve to feel free while traveling, whether I'm traveling solo or just need my own space to recharge.
I'm ready for cool experiences.
I know that on every Buoyant trip, we support at least two (but often more) Black-owned businesses, from photographers to tour guides to restaurants and beyond. I'm here to put my money where my mouth is and invest in the global Black community.
I believe rest is my birthright.
I understand this trip includes downtime, and I don't have to be "on" 24/7. Whether I choose to explore independently or stay in bed, I honor my need for rest and rejuvenation as part of the travel experience.
Thank you for taking the time to carefully read our Kinfolk Values. It means the world to us and to your fellow kinfolk. We can't wait to connect with cool across the diaspora, together.
