Dakar is West Africa's coolest coastal city that somehow flies under the radar. The Senegalese capital serves up top tier surfing, a thriving art scene, and nightlife that buzzes just like anywhere on the continent—all with that famous Teranga (hospitality) that makes you feel like family from day one.

From oceanfront luxury resorts to intimate boutique properties owned by Black women making waves in hospitality, there's a perfect spot for every travel style.

We've been exploring Dakar and building connections here since planning our first Senegal trip, and these are our top five recommendations for where to stay in Dakar for solo travelers, couples, and friend groups ready to experience this Atlantic gem.

The 5 Best Hotels In Dakar, Senegal

1. Pullman Dakar Teranga

A legendary property that's been welcoming guests since Senegal's independence era, the Pullman Dakar Teranga sits pretty on the Corniche with unbeatable Atlantic Ocean views. This 5-star hotel mixes French elegance with Senegalese warmth, featuring spacious rooms with private balconies overlooking the sea. The sprawling pool deck is perfect for a Dakar day spent lounging, while the multiple restaurants serve everything from fresh seafood to international cuisine. Just a 10-minute walk from the African Renaissance Monument, the Pullman puts you in the heart of it all while still feeling like a seaside retreat.

Experience Senegal

Terrou-Bi is where Dakar's coolest people come to play, and for good reason. This beachfront resort features its own private beach, casino, and some of the city's hottest nightlife spots. The rooms are modern and luxurious with floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing either ocean or city views. Head to their Japanese restaurant for unexpected sushi in West Africa, or keep it local at their Senegalese spot. Shhh, there’s also a speakeasy just off the lobby. The infinity pool seemingly spills into the Atlantic, making for the perfect sunset photo op. If you're looking to experience Dakar's see-and-be-seen scene, Terrou-Bi is your spot.

3. Boma Lifestyle Hotel

Tucked away on a buzy corner of between Dakar’s Almadies and N’gor area, Boma Lifestyle Hotel is an intimate boutique property that feels more like a stylish friend's home than a hotel. With 25 rooms, the service here is personal and attentive. The design is all contemporary African chic—think bold patterns, local art, and carefully curated spaces that beg to be photographed. Their pool area is a tropical oasis with lush greenery, and the on-site restaurant serves creative takes on Senegalese classics. For travelers who want something special beyond the big chains, Boma delivers that insider feel.

4. The Palms Luxury Boutique Hotel

Souadou Niang began her hospitality career as a housekeeper at the Ritz-Carlton in Washington, D.C., and now she owns The Palms Luxury Boutique Hotel. The 20-room property is gorgeous and is where luxury meets authenticity in Dakar.

The hotel features suites decorated with West African textiles and contemporary furnishings, creating an elevated yet homey vibe. The rooftop terrace offers panoramic views of Dakar's skyline, ideal for sundowners after a day exploring the city.

What sets The Palms apart is the attention to detail, the owner's commitment to showcasing Senegalese hospitality at its finest, and her dedication to hiring women for 80% of her staff. Next door is Niang's restaurant, Noliane, an Italian cafe, restaurant, and wine bar concept.

On our last Senegal trip, we had the pleasure of a delicious private wine tasting with food pairings at Noliane, hosted by Niang and her phenomenal team.

5. Noom Hotel

Noom (formerly The Radisson Blu) brings reliable luxury to Dakar's hotel scene. It is located in the upscale Fann Corniche neighborhood near some of the city's best restaurants and nightlife. The rooms are standard contemporary with all the comforts you'd expect from the global brand. But the real star here is their rooftop bar and restaurant, which offers 360-degree views of Dakar. The infinity pool is another highlight, seeming to float above the city. For a centrally located stay with quality service, Noom delivers.
