Afro Nation Portugal

Community Trip Details

Join Buoyant for a community trip at the world's largest Afrobeats festival. We're bringing together our community of Black travelers to experience Afro Nation Portugal 2026 — starting with the African Lisbon walking tour and dinner at a Black-owned restaurant, then heading to Portimão for 3 days of music, culture, and vibes on the beach.

What Makes This Trip Different

This is a community trip, not our signature full-trip experiences.

We handle the hotels, group transportation, and the Lisbon Black cultural experience. You handle your Afro Nation ticket, flights, and most meals.

What that means:

  • Shared accommodations (not private rooms like our signature trips)

  • You buy your own Afro Nation ticket

  • More independence, less structure

  • We provide: hotels, group transportation, a curated Black Lisbon experience, and most importantly, community.

Perfect for: Solo travelers who want to experience Afro Nation with a group of like-minded Black people without planning everything themselves.

How to Join

Step 2: If we receive 10+ interested travelers, we'll send payment links by October 10

Step 3: Pay your $250 deposit by October 20 to secure your spot

Step 4: Trip confirmed by October 30 if we receive at least 8 deposits.

This trip runs with 8-10 travelers.

Why do I need to fly out of Faro instead of Lisbon?

A: Faro Airport is only 40 minutes from Portimão, making it much more convenient for departure day. This also gives you flexibility to leave whenever your flight is scheduled, rather than coordinating with a 3-hour group bus ride back to Lisbon.

How do I get to Faro Airport on departure day?
You'll arrange your own Uber, Bolt, or taxi from the hotel to Faro Airport, about about 40 minutes away. You can also coordinate ride-shares with other travelers leaving around the same time.

Arrival: Lisbon Airport (LIS) - July 1, 2026
Departure: Faro Airport (FAO) - July 6, 2026

    Why Faro?

    • Faro is only 40 minutes from our hotel in Portimão

    • You arrange your own departure time and airport transfer (Uber/taxi ~€30-40)

    • No need to coordinate with the group or travel 3 hours back to Lisbon

    • Multi-city tickets are typically the same price or just slightly more than round-trip

Need help? We'll send detailed flight booking instructions once you're confirmed for the trip.

    ——

    Flight Questions:
Q: Do I have to fly into Lisbon and out of Faro, or can I book round-trip to one city?

A: For this trip, we require multi-city flights (into Lisbon, out of Faro). Here's why:

Our itinerary starts in Lisbon with the African Lisbon tour and welcome dinner, then we travel together to Portimão for Afro Nation. After the festival ends, you'll depart from Faro Airport, which is only 40 minutes from our hotel.

    Why not round-trip to Lisbon?
Flying back to Lisbon would require a 3-hour bus ride on departure day, coordinating everyone's different flight times, and added stress. Flying out of Faro gives you flexibility and is much more convenient.

    Is it more expensive?
Not usually! Multi-city tickets are often the same price as round-trip tickets (sometimes even cheaper). When we checked NYC to Portugal, multi-city flights were around $600-800 — comparable to standard round-trips.

Bottom line: This routing makes your life easier on departure day and keeps our group logistics simple. We'll send detailed booking instructions once you're confirmed!

Thank you for your interest in our Portugal community trip. This brief form helps us learn about your interest in attending Afro Nation Portugal with Buoyant in July 2026.

  • I joined Bri and seven other Black women for Detty December in Ghana 2022 and it was one of the best trips I've ever been on! I have traveled widely mostly/usually solo, but I couldn't have imagined a better trip for my first group retreat. Bri planned absolutely everything and all I had to do was pay and show up. She had been to Ghana 3x previous to our group trip and is so knowledgeable, prepared, kind and caring for everyone in the group, so I had no doubts that we were in good hands with her (and Cycy who led all the daytime group tours). For someone who plans all their own travel it was really nice to change roles and not have to worry about much. I got to take in all the wonders of Ghana from the nature, food, people and parties and fell in love with the country. I had such a fun time that I'm already considering going back for December 2023! I highly recommend booking with Buoyant Travel for any future trips, it's a guaranteed good time.

  • I had a great time on this trip and am looking forward to traveling with Buoyant again! Bri curated a great group of travelers, arranged beautiful and centrally located accommodations and special activities. The group day trips were well organized, with enough time to enjoy and not feel rushed going from one place to the next while still leaving plenty of time to explore on our own. Afrochella, the waterfall photo shoot, the tour of the city, and our visit to Cape Coast were my favorites. I appreciated Bri's communication throughout the trip, keeping us updated on schedules and changes, and checking in. Also, having a photographer, driver, tour guides, and local connections went a long way, especially while shopping and eating local foods. Everything, and I mean everything I tried, was delicious, from tilapia and banku to okra stew, light soup, waakye, fresh fruits, and bofrot – I enjoyed it all. At the beginning of the trip, I told the ladies I was looking forward to eating and dancing my way through Ghana, and I did just that! I couldn't have asked for a better *first* group trip with beautiful Black women from across the globe to experience the culture, company, and celebration that is December in Ghana. Thank you, Buoyant, for the experience!

  • I traveled with Buoyant Travel group December 2019 and it was such a monumental trip. This trip changed my life. Ghana will forever remain special to me and I have already returned twice. Briona is not only an amazing woman but she is an incredible tour guide. In my opinion, the purpose of booking with a tour group is for convenience, meeting like minded people, reduced stress, an organized trip, and great memories. Briona checked all of these boxes and was super organized. I have quickly referred her to others and I plan to join her group in Brazil!I traveled with Buoyant Travel group December 2019 and it was such a monumental trip. This trip changed my life.
