Debunking the $2,000 Bank Account Requirement Myth

Recently, misleading reports and misinformation about Brazil's financial proof requirements have been spreading on social media. We've confirmed with our contacts at Visa Brasil that there is no specific monetary requirement for tourists applying for Brazil's tourist visa.

However, it is recommended that all travelers have "sufficient funds" to ensure they have enough to support themselves during their stay, which is a standard practice for many countries worldwide.

While there's no exact financial proof requirement, the consulate may request additional documentation at its discretion.

Brazil E-Visa Requirements: What US Citizens Need

Visa application form: The first step is to register your account and fill out the application with personal travel information and details. Next, youโ€™ll be prompted to upload the required documents.

eVisa fee: The eVisa costs $80.90 (as of 2025) and is paid online through the eVisa application.

Valid passport: Itโ€™s recommended that your passport be valid for at least six months beyond the date you intend to enter Brazil. Additionally, your passport should have two blank pages. Youโ€™ll also need to scan a color photo of the biometric page of your passport to ensure that the MRZ code is visible. Click to see the sample file.

Processing time: According to the official Brazil eVisa website, the average processing time for eVisa applications is up to 5 business days. However, it is recommended that you apply for your visa two months before your planned travel to Brazil to have sufficient time to complete or rectify your application if necessary.

Download eVisa: After payment and processing, youโ€™ll receive an email confirming the status of your application. Once approved, youโ€™ll receive an email containing a PDF file with your Brazil eVisa. All travelers should download, save, and print their eVisa to present at boarding and landing in Brazil. As a backup, plan to keep a copy of the PDF on your phone.
